I'm out of the office right now at a clients site and we're delayed because of rain. The client has an operation manufacturing retaining wall systems called Wallmaster, and with the rain came a late delivery here at their display and manufacturing yard. Because the product is treated kiln dried timber it can't stay in the rain so he's busily running around the yard on the forklift moving it under shelter right now.
It's not a problem though, I can set up the demo while I'm waiting, have a coffee, and do a blog all from my clients office. I might even check my email if I need to. It could be more frustrating except that we're so desperate for rain the happiness of having it outweighs the hassles it can cause to the work day.
It made me think about how rain affects businesses in the trades such as Wallmaster. Being the manufacturer their main problem is stuff like I describe above but for the businesses out in the gardens installing the walls, rain means down tools. Down tools means lost money to a business, I sometimes wonder how much business is lost in the trades sector when people are unable to work in the rain? I'm sure even the tradies that suffer under the conditions are thankful for water to drink though, just a fact of life in the end.
