When ever I mention the fact that I used to work for MSN, people always go oh I love that program! (meaning msn messenger the internet messenger client).
Its funny how branding works and they way people see things. My little brother just msn'ed me asking if the email he just recieved was true in that microsoft were going to be charging for msn! I asked him to forward the email to me...which reads as follows:

hey everyone, i dont normally send this sort of stuff out but had a look on the internet and its actually true. On the 1st of november , we will have to pay for the use of our MSN and email accounts unless we send this message to at least 18 contacts on your contact list. The bbc article clearly states: Microsoft is reportedly planning to start charging surfers for the improved services of its MSN internet portal.
People see MSN, have no idea what a portal is, and assume that they mean messenger. It could be a bit of yahoo gorilla marketing, you never know, it does say my msn dude will turn blue if I send this message to 18 contacts, perhaps because I blogged about it, my pc will blow up?
Oh, and the last time microsoft tried to adopt the subscription model for its portals it failed miserabley and cost them millions of dollars, I should know I helped spend it! And I also dont think Microsoft would send out a mail starting with Hi every one: Hey it is Andy and john the directors of MSN!
